Step Two -- Be Aware of -- and Avoid -- the Subtlety of Debt

The Lord will send rain at the proper time from His rich treasury in the heavens to bless all the work you do. You will lend to many nations, but you will never need to borrow from them. If you listen to these commands of the Lord your God and carefully obey them, the Lord will make you the head and not the tail, and you will always have the upper hand.” (Deut 28:12-13)

I.  Eight Things You Need To Know About Debt.

A. If You’re in Debt, it Affects Everything You Do.

B. The Bible Does Not Forbid the Use of Debt. Deut 15:2; Ex 22:25; Lev. 25:35-36; Deut 23:19-20; Mat 5:42

C. The Bible Does Discourage the Use of Debt. Prov 22:7; Rom 13:8; Phil 4:10-20

 “The borrower is servant to the lender.” Prov 22:7

 “Let no debt remaining outstanding except to love one another.” Rom 13:8

D. Co-Signing is Not Called a Sin in the Bible, but it is Considered Foolish. Prov 6:1-5; 22:26-27

E. The Longest Term of Debt in The Bible was Seven Years. Deut 15:1

F.  If You’re In Debt, You Ought to Get Out as Quickly as Possible. Ps 37:21

The wicked borrow and do not repay.” (Ps 37:21)

G.  Jesus Endorsed Saving and Making Interest on His Money. Mat 25:27-30

 H.  God’s Plan is That We be Lenders, Not Borrowers.

You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.”  (Deut 28:12)

1. Give it. 

2. Save it. 

3. Invest it. 

4. Lend it. 

5. Spend it.
