A Different Kind of Integrity Matthew 5:33–37
A Different Kind of Integrity
Matthew 5:33–37
Sermon on the Mount (Part 8 of 16)
INTRODUCTION Matthew 5:20, 33
Jesus calls us beyond rule-keeping to a life of integrity.
I. WE ARE GOOD AT FINDING LOOPHOLES
Matthew 5:33
God’s people were called to keep their word.
Religious leaders created ways around the truth.
Jesus confronts the heart behind the loophole
Am I being truthful, or merely technically correct?
II. WE LIVE IN THE PRESENCE OF GOD
Matthew 5:34–36
Every word is spoken before God.
There is no “off-the-record” life for a disciple.
Our words should reflect the character of the King.
III. LET YOUR YES BE YES Matthew 5:37
Say what you mean.
Mean what you say.
Do what you said you would do.
Integrity includes:
Truthfulness • Honesty • Reliability • Consistency
IV. KINGDOM PEOPLE SHOULD BE EASY TO TRUST
Ephesians 4:25; John 14:6
Tell the truth.
Keep your promises.
Admit when you are wrong.
Be the same person in public and private.
Jesus is not simply saying, “Tell fewer lies.”
He is saying:
Become truthful. Become trustworthy. Become whole.
Let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no.
